Want to visit one of the must-see sights in Los Angeles? The Griffith Observatory is more than just the iconic backdrop to the famous dance scene in La La Land, it's one of the most famous and influential astronomical observatories in the world!
Inaugurated in 1935, the observatory was created and conceived by Griffith J. Griffith so that the inhabitants of Southern California and all over the world would have the opportunity to observe and learn about astronomy and science. Griffith Observatory was created as a public space, breaking tradition by making astronomy accessible to everyone—not just scientists.
Since its opening, it has been used on numerous occasions and for various purposes. For example, during World War II it was used to train pilots in astronomical navigation. In addition, in the 1960s, the astronauts of the Apollo program were trained here. Can you imagine knowing these and other surprising stories? The included audio guide allows you to delve into all the secrets and curiosities of one of the most visited places in Los Angeles.
Once inside, you'll find planetariums, telescopes, and microscopes that will take you to the ends of the universe.
