By booking these sumo tournament tickets, you’ll experience a true immersion in Japanese culture as you watch a match at the iconic Ryōgoku Kokugikan stadium, the home of sumo in Tokyo. You’ll love it!
Sumo isn’t just a sport, but a profound expression of Japanese history, customs, and discipline. With more than 1,000 years of history, sumo is full of symbolism and spirituality, and it also reflects traditional values such as respect, hierarchy, and perseverance. Watching a match isn’t only exciting, it’s a real cultural immersion that you won't forget.
At the scheduled time, we'll meet at the Former Yasuda Garden and begin our tour of Ryōgoku, the legendary sumo district of Tokyo. To immerse ourselves in this fascinating tradition, which is over 1,500 years old, we'll visit Edo Noren, a reconstructed market that offers a glimpse into old Tokyo.
At this market, you'll have free time to explore the wide variety of food and traditional crafts offered at its many stalls. Afterward, we'll go to Eko-in Temple, the birthplace of modern sumo. Here, we'll admire the various monuments dedicated to the Rikishi of the past and learn about the spiritual significance behind each match.
Once we have fully immersed ourselves in sumo, we'll walk for a few minutes to the legendary Ryōgoku Kokugikan, the national sumo stadium, where you’ll have the chance to attend an official sumo tournament in this iconic venue, which has a capacity of 10,000 spectators.
The experience will be guided by a sumo expert who’ll accompany you throughout the event. This specialist guide not only knows the rules and structure of the sport but will also share with you the stories behind the wrestlers, their daily routines, the rituals of the dohyō, the fighting ring, and the Shinto roots present in every detail of the match.
From the throwing of salt to purify the ring to the ceremonial gestures of the wrestlers, everything has a meaning that the guide will help you understand. In short, you'll enjoy an unforgettable experience that connects you with the soul of Japan through its oldest and most symbolic sport.
When booking, you can choose from the following ticket types, depending on where in the stadium you'd like to watch the tournament:
