When in northern France, don't miss the chance to secure your ticket to the captivating Coucy Castle, a stunning trip through French history and culture in the heart of Picardy!
Nestled in the picturesque Picardy region, Coucy Castle stands as one of the grandest fortresses in northern France.
With your entry ticket to Coucy Castle, you'll explore the remnants of this magnificent bastion constructed in the 13th century. Back then, Enguerrand III de Boves, Lord of Coucy, ordered the construction of this fortress for two primary purposes: to safeguard his domain and to showcase his authority.
Although disassembled in 1652, the castle served as a stone quarry until its acquisition by the French State in 1848. Over time, architects such as Viollet-le-Duc undertook the preservation of its ruins. Nonetheless, during World War I, various watchtowers, including the keep, were destroyed by the German army.
Despite its partial destruction, numerous remnants of Coucy Castle still stand proudly today. Your ticket allows you to stroll along the perimeter of the ancient fortress, where you can admire the remains of a significant part of the building.
During your visit, you'll also encounter the remains of the castle's former chapel and other architectural elements that provide insights into the grandeur and scale of this awe-inspiring castle.
